Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the actions taken by Ilford Cleaners to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our business operations and supply chains. Ilford Cleaners is committed to conducting all aspects of its activities in an ethical and responsible manner, ensuring that the dignity and rights of all individuals are respected and protected.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Ilford Cleaners provides professional cleaning services to residential and commercial customers. Our workforce includes employees, contractors and agency workers. Our supply chain covers providers of cleaning materials, equipment, workwear, facilities services and various professional services. We recognise that modern slavery can occur in businesses of any size and in any sector, and we therefore take active steps to reduce the risk of exploitation in every part of our operations.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a clear zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery, forced labour, human trafficking and child labour. Any form of coercion, abuse, exploitation or denial of basic human rights is fundamentally incompatible with the values of Ilford Cleaners. We expect the same level of commitment from all parties with whom we work, including suppliers, subcontractors and other business partners.
Our zero-tolerance stance is embedded in our internal policies, staff handbooks, contracts and supplier terms and conditions. Breaches of these requirements may result in disciplinary action for employees and termination of contracts or relationships with external partners.
Risk Assessment and Supplier Due Diligence
We regularly assess the risk of modern slavery within our business and wider supply chain. This includes reviewing the nature of services and products we procure, the locations in which our suppliers operate and the type of labour commonly used in those sectors. Where heightened risks are identified, we take proportionate steps to investigate and mitigate those risks.
All new key suppliers are subject to a due diligence process that may include ethical questionnaires, review of their own modern slavery statements and policies, and checks on their labour and recruitment practices. Continued relationships with suppliers are dependent on their willingness and ability to meet our standards on human rights and labour practices.
Supplier Audits and Ongoing Monitoring
Ilford Cleaners conducts periodic audits and reviews of selected suppliers, particularly those providing labour or operating in higher risk categories. These audits may include site visits, documentation reviews and discussions with management regarding recruitment, wages, working conditions and grievance mechanisms.
Where non-compliance or areas of concern are identified, we work with suppliers to develop corrective action plans with clear timelines. If a supplier is unwilling or unable to implement the required improvements, we reserve the right to reconsider or terminate the business relationship.
Training, Awareness and Reporting Channels
We are committed to raising awareness of modern slavery risks among our employees and managers. Training is provided to relevant staff so they can recognise signs of exploitation and understand how to report concerns appropriately. Managers with responsibility for recruitment, procurement and contractor management receive additional guidance on ethical practices and risk mitigation.
Ilford Cleaners encourages all employees, contractors and suppliers to speak up if they suspect that modern slavery or related abuses may be taking place. Concerns can be raised confidentially through internal reporting channels to line managers or designated senior staff. We do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises a concern in good faith, and all reports are handled sensitively and investigated where appropriate.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Our approach to tackling modern slavery is subject to continuous improvement. We recognise that risks can evolve over time, and we are committed to regularly reviewing and enhancing our policies, procedures and controls. Each year, Ilford Cleaners reviews this Modern Slavery Statement, our risk assessments and the effectiveness of the measures we have implemented.
The annual review considers changes in our business operations, feedback from staff and suppliers, the outcomes of audits and investigations, and developments in law and best practice. Where necessary, we update our policies, training and contractual requirements to ensure they remain robust and effective in preventing modern slavery and protecting vulnerable workers.
This Statement has been approved by the leadership of Ilford Cleaners and represents our ongoing commitment to ethical conduct and the eradication of modern slavery in all its forms.
